What is the best Anti Wrinkle Treatment for me?

We always undertake a thorough consultation with either Dr Claudia or Dr Crispin where all options are discussed. Options include Dermapen, Radiofrequency, skin peels and of course Anti Wrinkle Injections with Botulinum Toxin. Probably the most well known type of botulinum toxin is Botox® but there are many others including Azzalure which we tend to use as we’ve found it to be the most effective and give the most predictable results.

What is Botulinum Toxin and how does it work?

Sadly the use of our facial muscles repeatedly throughout our life causes wrinkles and frown lines to develop. In addition to this the slowing down of collagen and elastin production caused by the ageing process means that these lines become permanent as we get older. The muscle relaxing injectable treatment that we use is botulinum toxin, most commonly known as Botulinum Toxin. Botox works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles and thus reducing their movement. This in turn stops the skin creasing and allows it to recover, causing the lines to soften or even fade away.

Is Botulinum Toxin safe?

Despite all its negative press Botulinum Toxin has been used since the 1970s to treat many medical conditions, including paediatric conditions, such as cerebral palsy and has been used safely with positive effect in far higher doses than are administered in anti wrinkle treatments. When treated by a well-trained and experienced clinician Botulinum Toxin is very safe.

Will Botulinum Toxin make me look frozen?

No. Dr Morley prides herself on giving the perfect fresh, natural look which means preserving some movement in the muscles whilst still smoothing out the wrinkles, and avoiding that plastic expressionless look that we sadly see all too often. This is something that takes skill and experience which is why it is so important to choose your practitioner carefully.

Which areas can Botulinum Toxin treat?

Mostly, the top half of face where wrinkles are deepened by smiling and frowning. However, Botulinum Toxin also corrects crow's feet around the eyes, forehead lines, 'bunny lines' around the nose, vertical neck bands, grooves above the upper lip and gummy smiles.

Botulinum Toxin is also a very effective treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in the armpits.

What is the procedure like? Is it painful?

The actual procedure is simple and quick (actual treatment up to 20 minutes). Using a tiny micro needle, a very small amount of Botulinum Toxin, which comes in liquid form, is injected very precisely into the required areas on the face. The needle used is incredibly fine and therefore few patients experience even mild discomfort.

Are there any side effects?

Most are very minor, and include minor redness or swelling around injection sites (resolves within 1-2 hours), less commonly some minor bruising and mild headache. The large majority of patients do not have any noticeable side effects and many return to work straight after the procedure.

How soon will I see the results of Botulinum Toxin?

The effects of Botulinum Toxin have a gradual effect, starting to appear within a few days and reaching optimal appearance at around two weeks. Dr Morley always offers a free consultation at this time where she can give a free top-up treatment if required.

How long do the effects of Botulinum Toxin last?

Each individual is different but on average the effects will last between 3-6 months.

What will happen once the effects of the Botulinum Toxin fade?

Botulinum Toxin is broken down by the body during the first 48 hours so does not accumulate in your system. Effects improve with multiple treatments because the muscle is already relaxed from the previous treatment so the skin is creasing less and the wrinkles are not being reinforced. If you decided not to continue having Botulinum Toxin treatments your face would simply return to how it was prior to treatment, the wrinkles would not be worse.

Dermal Fillers

Tiny injections of Hyaluronic Acid – a naturally occurring protein in the skin that diminishes with age – are used to plump, smooth and re-volumise targeted areas. Huge advances have been made over the last 10 years or so, in terms of the actual filler products and the techniques used, and it is now possible to do anything from smoothing a few lines to re-contouring and lifting the whole face.

What is dermal filler and how does it work?

As our faces age we lose volume and that full faced youthful look gradually disappears. The effects of gravity can cause skin to sag and with it lines appear. Dermal fillers are tiny injections of a naturally occurring product in our skin called Hyaluronic Acid. This is what gives our skin its volume and fullness but as we get older the amount of Hyaluronic Acid we produce starts to diminish causing our skin to become dryer and thinner. When injected into to the skin it rejuvenates the face by adding volume, filling and smoothing out targeted areas.

Which areas can dermal fillers treat?

There are many different types of dermal filler and each can be used in different ways and areas of the face to produce the desired effect. Popular areas to treat are:

  • Nasolabial folds (nose to mouth lines)
  • Lipstick or 'smoker's lines' (vertical lines around lips)
  • Marionette lines (running downwards from corners of mouth)
  • Frown lines between eyebrows (normally most effective if Botulinum Toxin is used in this area first)
  • Chin & jawline contouring
  • Eye laughter lines and crow's feet
  • Lip enhancement and shaping
  • Cheek smile lines & cheek volumisation

When will I see the effects of the dermal filler treatment?

You will see an effect immediately and this then improves as the skin adapts to the filler. Since the hyaluronic acid is hydrophilic, it attracts fluid within the skin and effects are enhanced gradually over the first two weeks.

How long does dermal filler last?

This varies depending on the area treated but generally the effects will last somewhere between 6 and 12 months.

What is the procedure like? Will it hurt?

A small needle is used to inject the filler, which is a gel-like substance, into the appropriate area. All the dermal fillers used by Dr Morley contain a local anaesthetic which means pain experienced is very minimal. The procedure is simple and quick, some areas taking only about 15 minutes, others needing a bit longer. No recovery time is needed and many people resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

Are Dermal Fillers safe?

When treated by a well-trained and experienced clinician dermal fillers are very safe. Only 1 in 20,000 treatments result in an allergic reaction. Horror stories about trout pouts, migration of fillers and hard lumps are only possible with a different type of filler used by surgeons, not the hyaluronic acid ones used by Dr Morley.

Are there any side-effects with dermal fillers?

Most are very minor and related to the actual injecting, not the product itself. These include redness, minor swelling and bruising. If you are prone to cold sores, having a filler injection can sometimes precipitate one.

What will happen once the effects of the filler fades?

This happens very gradually over several months (up to 12 depending on area and type of filler) and the gel is broken down naturally and reabsorbed by the skin. If you decided not to continue having Dermal filler treatments your face would simply return to how it was prior to treatment, the wrinkles would not be worse.

Non Surgical Facelift

This is a bespoke treatment that normally involves Dermal Filler injections, but can also include HIFU or Radiofrequency and often some anti wrinkle treatments too. It is all dependent on the needs of the individual. Dr Morley has become an expert over the years since she started in 2009 at not only performing these procedures but analysing the face and establishing the best treatment protocol to restore the youthful V shape, re-contouring the face to tighten the jaw line, redefine the cheeks and generally lift the lower face.

What does the lip enhancement procedure involve?

Dr Morley will inject small quantities of filler into the border of the lips or body of the lip depending on the desired effect. The process can be uncomfortable so topical local anaesthetic will be applied to reduce any discomfort. Also, the filler itself contains anaesthetic. It should take approximately 30 minutes and the effects are instant.

What is the result?

Lip borders can be defined and the shape and size of the lips can be enhanced. This treatment is also ideal for reducing lines and creases around the mouth area (including ‘smoker’s lines’). Results last approximately 6-9 months.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Swelling and redness are common side effects, but such complaints are very temporary and should subside shortly after the procedure.

How does Profhilo work?

Profhilo is a pure, high dose hyaluronic acid that stimulates collagen and elastin both in the dermis and epidermis of the skin hydrating and tightening the skin from within. It produces an intense, prolonged and sustained hydration of the skin. Profhilo contains no chemical stabilisers such as BDDE reducing the risk of potential side effects.

What does the treatment involve?

Profhilo is injected using super-fine needles in a specific layer of the skin using the BAP technique. 5 injection sites on each side of the face have been specifically designed to produce the optimum result. We recommend 2 sessions around 4 weeks apart for the best results.

Profhilo can also be used on the neck, inner arms, hands and Decolletage to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin hydration.

We can also combine it with other techniques such as radiofrequency to give the ultimate boost to the skin.

Are there any side effects?

With the purity of the Hyaluronic acid used and the BAP technique side effects are extremely uncommon. As with any injection there is a small risk of bruising and infection. There will be small bumps at the injection sites bit these disappear within 24 hours.

£350 for 1 area (1 x 2ml syringe)
£600 for 2 areas (2 x 2ml syringes)
£800 for 3 areas (3 x 2ml syringes)
*NB When having this treatment for the first time it is recommended to have two treatments one month apart. Then the gap can be increased to 3-6 monthly.

How do Polynucleotides work?

Polynucleotides are derived from sustainably sourced highly purified trout and salmon DNA. Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid skin boosters they don’t simply hydrate and replace your body’s HA they stimulate your body’s cells to produce their own collagen and elastin. They also act to reduce melanocytosis reducing pigmentation and dark under eye bags. They have a strong anti-inflammatory effect and are free radical scavengers.

Which Polynucleotide do we use?

We use the Plinest from renowned Italian manufacturer Mastelli.

What can they be used to treat?

  • Dark circles around the eyes
  • Pigmentation
  • Skin laxity and wrinkles
  • Redness and inflammation
  • Scarring

How is the treatment administered?

A numbing cream is applied to the area to be treated. Around the eyes we tend to use a canula as this reduces the chance of bruising. We also use a very fine and short needle around the crow’s feet and smaller areas for treatment for example localised scarring.

When will I see results?

Polynucleotides differ from most other injectables in that the results are not immediate. They are completely resorbed by your body and rely on stimulating your cells to produce their effect. This means the results take around 8-12 weeks to be become noticeable. Initially we recommend 3 sessions approximately 3 weeks apart for the best results. After this it is usually only necessary to have 1 treatment approximately every 6 months to maintain the effect. As with all biostimulators the results are dependent on your own cells’ response to the treatment. As such the effectiveness of the treatment will differ from person to person but this will be fully discussed at the time of your appointment.

Are there any side effects?

As with any injectable the main risk is bruising. We minimise this by using a canula around the eyes. There can be some mild swelling immediately afterwards, but this is short lived. There is a small, theoretical risk of infection.

£375 per session per syringe (usually 1 syringe is sufficient for 1 area e.g. around eyes)

£950 Initial course of 3 treatments at 3 weekly intervals

Am I suitable for Injectable Skin Boosters?

Injectable Skin Boosters treat a wide range of skin conditions. It helps lift tired, dry and dull looking skin firming the texture and smoothing fine lines.

How does it work?

A topical anaesthetic is applied before the treatment. A tiny acupuncture type needle is then used to deposit the active ingredients directly under the skin. These ingredients then work to improve the texture of the skin, hydrating and brightening it.

We usually recommend a course of 3 treatments over a period of 3-12 weeks to optimize results but every client will have a full consultation with Dr Morley and their treatment plan can be tailored to suit.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after the treatment there may be some slight swelling at the injection sites these are perfectly normal and settle very quickly over the next 24-48hrs. Ice packs can help if needed. There is a small risk of bruising.

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical injury. The Dermapen uses the latest technology in micro-needling to create multiple, tiny vertical punctures in the skin causing controlled microtrauma which stimulates the skin’s own wound-healing process. In addition a bespoke serum is applied prior to the needling which is then absorbed deep into the skin via the microchannels. The controlled regeneration and stimulation of collagen and elastin smooths out fine lines and improves the skin texture and tone, resulting in the skin looking fresher and younger. Any skin will benefit from microneedling, from general anti-ageing to treating deep scars.

What does the treatment involve?

After a throrough skin consultation the skin is cleaned and disinfected, your bespoke serum is applied to the skin (according to your skin’s needs) which is then penetrated into the skin with the dermapen. The dermapen uses a single use sterile disposable tip which oscillates creating up to 1300 micropunctures per second at a predetermined depth depending on your requirements.

What is the difference between the Dermapen and a Dermaroller?

The Dermapen is an FDA approved device that is proven to provide less discomfort, with minimal to no downtime and provides greater results than a roller. The added advantage of the pen is that the depth of needle penetration can be altered during treatment. This enables us to provide a truly bespoke treatment plan to minimise discomfort and maximise results around sensitive and not so sensitive areas. The tip of the pen is small, allowing it to pass closer to the eyes and nose for a more effective treatment in those areas that are of great concern to many. The vibration of the Dermapen also helps to minimise discomfort.

What can the treatment be used for?

Commonly Dermapen is used for skin rejuvenation. It helps promote collagen formation and tightens the skin reducing fine lines and generally improving the health and appearance of the skin. It can also be used for acne scars, enlarged pores, pigmentation, rosacea, sun damage and stretch marks. It can be used anywhere on the body – the most popular areas are the face and neck, hands and décolletage (upper chest).

Does it hurt?

There can be some mild discomfort, some describe it as a scratching sensation, but is much more comfortable than the older form of microneedling, the dermaroller.

Who is this treatment suitable for?

It can be used on all skin types. There are some contraindications which will be discussed at consultation, the most important being any skin cancer or infection.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after the procedure the area treated may become red. This will tend to settle over a few days (often settles within a few hours). Other side-effects may include mild itching, swelling and dryness. As with any procedure that punctures the skin there is a risk of infection but this is extremely rare.

What to expect during treatment

The Fire & Ice treatment is a resurfacing treatment. It uses 18% glycolic acid (foaming enzyme peel is 16% so is better for sensitive skin/ anyone with rosacea or other skin problems – your practitioner will advise which one you should have). The top layer of the epidermis is removed but there is no visible ‘peeling’.

It is likely you will feel heat and tingling whilst the peel is in contact with the skin. This can increase after the masque is removed. However, after the neutralization (with the application of the rejuvenating ‘Ice’ masque) the skin calms almost entirely.

What does the treatment involve?

MAXIMUM RESULTS | ZERO DOWNTIME | ANTI –ACNEIC | ANTI AGEING

The Centrepiece of this remarkable system is a combination of two treatment masques; The extremely powerful Intensive Resurfacing Masque is formulated with Sugar Cane Extract (a potent natural source of Glycolic Acid), Retinol (Vitamin A) & Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) whilst the Rejuvenating Masque, formulated with potent antioxidants, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Aloe Vera, Green Tea, Grape Seed & Rosemary Extract, soothes, hydrates and nourishes. This treatment is complemented by a unique combination of cosmeceutical serums & crèmes to guarantee one of the most effective results driven facials you’ll ever experience.

For those with more sensitive skin we offer the Foaming Enzyme Optimising Treatment facial

RESULTS-DRIVEN | BRIGHTENING | TIGHTENING | CLARIFYING

Designed to revive tired and congested skin, this results driven treatment facial features a powerful yet soothing Foaming Enzyme Masque system, combining papaya & pineapple enzymes with a potent clinical level grade of glycolic acid. This professional treatment produces a luxurious foaming activity while the bio active ingredients exfoliate and deep cleanse the pores to reveal a polished radiant complexion. An intense revitalising masque, copper firming mist and combination of the highest grade pharmaceutical strength complexes and serums are incorporated with a blend of massage techniques to reveal brighter, re-energized and tighter radiant skin.

What is it used for?

Ideal for special occasions, problematic skin, dehydrated skin, uneven complexions, restoring luminosity and hyper pigmentation.

What to expect post treatment

The Fire & Ice (and Foaming Enzyme Peel) is a ‘no downtime’ treatment. This means you shouldn’t experience any significant shedding, prolonged redness, irritation or inflammation. However, in the first 4-6 hours following treatment, the skin may look and feel a little flushed.

Although extremely unlikely the following side-effects can occur with any skin peel: acne breakouts, swelling or puffiness, pigmentary changes, crusting, scaling, blisters and blanching of the skin.

Post treatment Advice

SPF and sun protection is essential for at least 4 weeks after the treatment. Daily use is recommended on a continual basis throughout the year.

Waxing and laser on the face should be avoided for at least 48 hours post treatment.

Avoid heat & exercise that will cause perspiration for the first 12 hours as this will reduce the efficacy of the deep penetrating ingredients.

Avoid exfoliation for one week.

Avoid the use of the ‘active serum’ and the white lightening serum and complex for 2-3 days.

Application of ‘Sheald recovery balm’ is advised if the skin is inflamed to support recovery.

For longer term benefits we would advise using an IS Clinical ‘cleanse, treat, hydrate & protect’ daily regime which your practitioner can advise you on.

Hyperhidrosis (Underarm Sweating)

This is a daily problem for many people and expensive antiperspirants are often ineffective. It can lead to some people avoiding social situations and suffering with loss of confidence. Botulinum Toxin is a recognised effective treatment for this and can often provide a miracle cure.

How does it work?

Botulinum Toxin stops the sweat glands under the arms from producing sweat. It blocks the message sent from nerves to the sweat glands in the same way it blocks the messages sent from nerves to the muscles that cause wrinkles.

What is the procedure like?

We use the OBSERV 320 - a diagnostic imaging device which visualises your total skin condition including the underlying ‘invisible’ layers, skin structures and patterns. The analysis includes looking at hydration, pigmentation, sun damage, redness, pores, dry lines and wrinkles. You will be provided with a discrete and personal skin analysis report (printed or email) which enables you to start your new skin health plan directly, based on the correct products and treatments recommended in the report.

£25 - this includes the analysis + 30 minute skincare consultation with Emma and is redeemable against any skincare products purchased
